Shakira was spotted enjoying a walk around New York City with boyfriend Antonio de la Rua on Thursday (Aug. 21). Meanwhile, the Colombian superstar claims she wants to be more than a fleeting fashion in the music universe. She says, “There are two big dreams for every artist, one is to get the initial approval, and then last within the audience’s preference along time…now I’m working in the second part of the dream, not only be a trend, I fight not to be that…”
Shakira was honored with an ALMA award on Sunday evening (August 19). The Colombian singer received an accolade for her charity work at the 2008 American Latino Media Arts Awards. ‘Desperate Housewives’ star Eva Longoria hosted the Latino event.
Shakira has reportedly bought an island in the Atlantic Ocean in partnership with Pink Floyd former bass guitarist Roger Waters, Miguel Bose and Alejandro Sanz. ( the Spanish word for freedom ) in more than 40 places such as London, Paris, Beijing, Miami, Sydney and New York, reports People magazine. Shakira insists she will keep fighting for the freedom of hostages in her native Colombia. The singer is thankful for the recent rescue of 15 captives from the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC), who were released after six years. Shakira along with other Latin artists including Juanes, Carlos Vives, Alejandro Sanz and Miguel Bose penned an open letter, claiming their fight for the hostages will remain until all of them are freed. “We will continue until we see all of them free. Our eyes and lips will not rest until we see and kiss those who remain captives of those without conscience," reads the letter.
